The Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove is one of the last remaining tracts of primary high forest in southern Nigeria. Along the banks of the Osun River stand sanctuaries, shrines, sculptures and artworks created in honour of Osun, the Yoruba goddess of fertility.
The grove is the setting for the annual Osun-Osogbo Festival, which draws thousands of visitors every August. Guided tours explain the sculptures of the New Sacred Art movement, the shrines, and the ecology of the forest itself.

Stunning place. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and the heat.

Went during the festival week. The sculptures and the river walk are extraordinary — take a guide, it is worth every naira.
